Katie Harmon is an interdisciplinary artist based in Chicago, Illinois. She is currently an Apprentice Artist with Aerial Dance Chicago. Originally from small town Rutherfordton, North Carolina, her early dance training began in various locations across Western NC including Gastonia and Asheville. Studying under professors like Kim Jones, E.E. Balcos, and Rachel Tucker, Harmon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance Performance, Choreography, and Theory at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has enjoyed the opportunity to dance in several performances, such as UNCC Department of Dance concerts, the Charlotte Dance Festival, and the inaugural Wake Forest Dance Festival. Harmon has worked under choreographers such as George Faison, Greg Dolbashian, Marcus White, and Claudia Lavista. Her choreographic work involves collaboration and creation across art forms. She focuses on using improvisation, experimentation, and digital editing skills to build multimedia films, performances, and experiences. Her performance based passions include exploring movement through improvisation, studying contemporary and modern techniques, and aerial dance.
