DANCER CONTRACT - SUMMER 2019
This agreement is made between Aerial Dance Chicago (ADC) and ARTIST for a contract period of August 1, 2019 - September 6, 2019.
Mission, Programmatic Focus & Safety
ADC is focused on the creative development of the fine art of contemporary dance and does not create or perform circus art, aerial stunt work or burlesque. ARTIST agrees to align with the mission of the company: The mission of Aerial Dance Chicago (ADC) is to enrich our community with the fine art of concert dance. Through innovative choreography and engaging performances, our programs educate, strengthen and connect people of all walks of life. ADC regards safety as the number one priority. ARTIST agrees to read, learn and work according to the guidelines of the ADC Safety Policy.
ARTIST agrees to be present at all company classes, company training, rehearsals, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances throughout the contract period. Unexcused absences and lateness will not be tolerated. Company Hours: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 10:00am-2:00pm.
Summer Dance Village

Aug 31 Rigging (time TBA)
Sept 3 Tech rehearsal - 11am
Sept 5 Two shows: 2pm & 4pm
Sept 6 Three shows: 7:30am, 9:30am, 12:30pm
Aerial Work Outside of ADC
ARTIST agrees not to participate in any activities (paid or unpaid) that involve aerial elements, including but not limited to auditions, classes, workshops, training, sharing sessions, rehearsals, performances, teaching, choreography, formation of an aerial company, etcetera, for the duration of the contract and for 6-weeks after the contract period ends. ARTIST agrees not to audition, perform or otherwise be involved in events for aerial-based companies, or any companies that make use of aerial elements in any way, (even if the particular role does not involve aerial elements) for the duration of this contract and for 6 weeks after the contract period ends.
Dance Performance (non-aerial) Outside of ADC
ARTIST may participate in dance work outside of ADC only if specific conditions are met. Outside work must not conflict with ADC work in any way. Auditions must be disclosed and approved by ADC directors in advance of attending. Outside dance work of any type (paid or unpaid) must be disclosed and approved by ADC directors in advance of accepting this other work. All programs must acknowledge ARTIST affiliation with Aerial Dance Chicago: “Dancer appears courtesy of Aerial Dance Chicago” and ARTIST must email a copy of the program to ADC directors prior to the performance.
All creative material generated during ADC activities, including but not limited to movement, choreography, training, curriculum, costumes, lighting, rig design, apparatus design, photos/videos (including media taken with artist device), etcetera, are copyrighted property of ADC and may not be used for any purpose outside of ADC. ARTIST agrees never to use ADC copyrighted material for any purpose outside of Aerial Dance Chicago, both when contracted by the company and at all times in the future when artist is no longer contracted by ADC.
Sharing on Social Media
ARTIST agrees to prominently tag @aerialdancechicago on the first line of text for any posts related to ADC activities. Where tag is not possible, artist agrees to credit full name “Aerial Dance Chicago” on the first line of text. ARTIST agrees to also credit the choreographer and photographer.
ARTIST receives a monthly paycheck that includes pay for rehearsals and performances. ARTIST is an employee of the organization, not an independent contractor. ADC withholds federal and state taxes, withholds and matches social security and Medicare and provides a W-2 form at the end of the tax year. Payments made to ARTIST require successful fulfillment of all rehearsals and performances in accordance to the terms of this contract. ARTIST agrees to return all monthly payments if this contract is not completed in its entirety with full integrity. Company classes and company training are unpaid, but free to ARTIST. During the contract period, ARTIST gains free access to classes at The School of Aerial Dance Chicago. To join classes, ARTIST agrees to register online, follow all school policies and help with day-to-day tasks while attending class, such as working the buzzer and helping keep the studio clean.
Breach of Contract
In the case this contract is breached in any way during the contract period or at any time after the contract period ends, ARTIST agrees to reimburse the company the full cost of the classes, training and monthly payments received from Aerial Dance Chicago.
