Ms. Jensen is the co-founder of Aerial Dance Chicago, serving the company as Artistic Director for its first fourteen seasons. In addition to her artistic leadership, she has been steadily building the infrastructure of the company, this season stepping away from Artistic Direction in order to turn her focus to the establishment of a New Center for Aerial Dance in Chicago. Ms. Jensen remains committed to the development of the artistic vision of the organization, grateful to be working alongside award-winning choreographer and long time ADC artist Karen Fisher Doyle, as Ms. Doyle serves the company this season as Artistic Director.
Ms. Jensen’s early explorations of aerial dance began at Northern Illinois University from 1997-1999, where she earned a specialized bachelors degree combining dance, education and physical education and pursued independent research examining the ways in which movement and physical fitness affect learning capacity and mental acuity. She went on to teach acrobatic dance, aerial dance and ballet to dance majors during her graduate studies in choreography and kinesiology at Arizona State University and has now been creating and teaching in the field of aerial dance for the past 16 years. Her choreography has been presented locally and nationally, in Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival, The Best of Dance Chicago, Spring to Dance St. Louis, Dancing in the Streets Festival St. Louis, at various colleges and universities, and at popular hometown venues such as Millennium Park, The Museum of Science and Industry, and The Museum of Contemporary Art. Prior to founding of Aerial Dance Chicago, Ms. Jensen danced for The Lyric Opera of Chicago and performed trampoline-dance choreography for Cirque du Soleil choreographer Debra Brown. She is a recipient of the prestigious M.P. Davis Scholarship to the International Aerial Dance Festival in Boulder, Colorado. Ms. Jensen is the proud mother of two amazing kids, who inspire her every day to work harder toward the mission of ADC: to make a positive impact on the world through the art of aerial dance.
